The word "LIBERTY" and the year of issue are also inscribed. The design is based on the iconic Walking Liberty half dollar coin design. Originally conceived by Adolph A. Weinman for the 1916-1947 half dollar coin, this classic representation of Liberty's graceful stride has become an enduring symbol of American freedom and opportunity.

The 2024 1 oz Silver Eagle coin features the updated reverse coin design, first issued by the United States Mint in 2021. This design depicts a bald eagle descending into its nest, clutching an oak branch with its talons. The soaring eagle reverse design was crafted by Emily Damstra. Coins issued in the first half of 2021 and prior feature the John Mercanti reverse design of a grand heraldic eagle holding a shield. The eagle is clasping arrows and olive branches in its talons, symbolizing both strength and harmony.
